About the Festival

This September, the United Nations Association of Greater Boston (UNA-GB) and the Kennedy School of Government Alumni Association of New England will present the 7th annual UNA Traveling Film Festival, “Global Voices,” which features the documentary films of talented moviemakers from around the world. These films deal with timely subjects ranging from the tragedy and violence in Darfur, to the painful reality of soldiers returning from Iraq, from the lives of women in Saudi Arabia to the human rights situation of Kosovo minorities—subjects meant to engage dialogue on issues that matter to all of us as humans. This year’s Festival will be held September 25-28, 2008.

Founded at Stanford University, the Festival now travels to nearly 30 cities annually, including Boston at The Brattle Theater and The Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. The Festival provides a forum through which the Greater Boston community can consider global issues through the creative eyes of filmmakers, and allows audiences to interact with the filmmakers themselves, who have been invited to attend. New this year, will be a public workshop on presenting international issues through film.

The Festival comes at a strategic time of the year, when Boston is alive with new and returning students, eager to explore the possibilities of the new year. This college community itself is very diverse; added to the vibrant international community who live and work in Boston, there is certain to be an enthusiastic audience for the Festival, expected to draw over 1,000 people throughout the weekend.

Various sponsorship levels are available. This is a great opportunity to associate your organization with an artistic and entertainment-focused event that focuses on global understanding, and offers a unique opportunity to reach Boston’s educated, diverse
community.

United Nations Association Film Festival (UNAFF)

Conceived in 1998 at Stanford University by film critic and educator Jasmina Bojic in conjunction with the fiftieth anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nations Association Film Festival (UNAFF) screens documentaries by international filmmakers dealing with topics such as human rights, environmental survival, women’s issues, children, refugee protection, homelessness, racism, disease control, universal education, war and peace. By bringing together filmmakers, the academic community and the general public,  UNAFF offers a unique opportunity for creative exchange and education among groups and individuals often separated by geography, ethnicity and economic constraints. Visit www.unaff.org for more information on the national festival.
